- The Tow Line September 2009
- On August 19, 2009 the M/V Miss Sarah and the M/V Kyle A. Shaw were christened into the Higman Fleet. The M/V Miss Sarah is named
in honor of Sarah Boucher a scheduler/dispatcher in the Houston office. Over 10 years ago Sarah came to the Higman Family from the
retail industry.
The M/V Kyla A. Shaw is named in honor of Kyle Shaw. Kyle's career in the barge industry began in 1986 after 26 years in the Coast Guard.
He joined a small barging company called Maryland Marine. In 1997 Higman purchased Maryland Marine and Kyle became the Vice President
of Health, Safety, Environment and Afloat Personnel.

- On February 11, 2009 the M/V Erik Salen was christened into the Higman Fleet.
The vessel is named after Erik Salén
a third generation member of a prominent
family in Stockholm, Sweden. Click

On January 1, 2009, Maryland Marine officially changed its Corporate name to Higman Barge Lines! Same Company - New Name!
The Board and Management of Higman decided in 2008 to place the Higman Barge Lines name back on our operations. The Higman name has been on the waterways since 1917 and is the name we are referred to in the industry.
Only the name has changed!
- During 2008 Higman has placed into service four more new 1800 hp Hope
built pushboats - M/V Capt. Jack Higman, M/V Preston N. Shuford,
M/V John T. McMahan and M/V Mark E. Flynn
- M/V George H. Thomas Christened For Higman Marine
- M/V Gretchen T. Christened For Higman Marine
- Higman Marine Services is pleased to announce the opening of their Mobile Alabama office. Thurston Lauder and Ronnie Collier have
joined Higman's operations group and head our office in Mobile Alabama @ 200 Dunlap Dr. Mobile, AL 36603
